Newcastle midfielder admits his confusion

Newcastle United are in danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.

Newcastle United midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum has admitted to The Chronicle that he cannot understand why the team are in the current situation.

The Magpies are second from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment and are in real danger of going down to the Championship at the end of the season.

Rafael Benitez’s side suffered yet another defeat at the weekend, as they lost 3-1 to Southampton away from home at St. Mary’s Stadium in the league on Saturday afternoon.

Wijnaldum has conceded that he is not sure why he and his teammates are performing poorly at the moment.

“I don’t understand why we’re nervous,” the Netherlands international told The Chronicle. “We’re in a situation now where we’re second-bottom of the league.

“We know if we play without confidence, and if you’re nervous, it’s going to be not good. You’re going to play bad.

“Why not give your best and try to change things? That’s something I don’t understand. It’s not the first game that this has happened.

“It’s difficult to win a game in this situation. The way they make the goals, it doesn’t look like they have to try their best to score.”

Wijnaldum is one of the best players in the current Newcastle squad, but he himself is struggling to play well at the moment, especially away from home.

It is quite strange that the Dutchman himself is confused about the current situation, and perhaps this is a sign just how bad things are at Newcastle at the moment.
