Newcastle fans react with anger as under-21s are hammered by Brighton

Newcastle can't seem to buy a win at any level.

Newcastle United's senior side are struggling at present, but the under-21 team are not faring too well either.

Last night they suffered a 4-1 home defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion, falling away dramatically after going a goal up.

The manner of the defeat will pile more pressure on under-21 coach Peter Beardsley, who has now presided over a poor run of results.

Newcastle's under-21 team have now lost six of their last seven games, with the exception being a 1-1 draw away to last night's conquerors Brighton.

Prior to this match they lost 3-1 against Arsenal, and 5-3 against Swansea, also within their poor run losing 3-0 to Fulham and 4-1 to West Ham.

How much of this is down to the coaching, or whether the players are simply not good enough, remains to be seen, but either way it does not look good for a club which should at least be pinning their hopes on young talent coming through the system to put pressure on their under performing first team stars.

Adam Armstrong aside, who has impressed on loan at Coventry, it is unclear if Newcastle possess a player capable of making the jump to the first team next season even in the Championship.

Fans were not at all happy with the heavy defeat, viewing it as symptomatic of the problems plaguing the first team, hinting at poor structure across the club.
