Jamie Redknapp reacts to Andy Carroll for England talk after West Ham hat-trick

Pundit says he would have little argument if West Ham striker Andy Carroll makes the England squad for Euro 2016.

Jamie Redknapp has told The Mail he would not protest if Andy Carroll is a late call up into Roy Hodgson's England squad for Euro 2016.

Carroll gave his England hopes a lifeline by scoring a hat-trick for West Ham against Arsenal at the weekend, nearly matching his Premier League tally before the game, which stood at just four goals for the season.

He is now up to a more respectable seven in 21 appearances, and with his display against the Gunners so dominant, the question of whether he could contribute for England has raised it's head again.

Redknapp says he would have little problem if Carroll gets the nod, telling The Mail: "I’ve always been an Andy Carroll fan. It’s so easy for people to get snooty and snobbish about an old-fashioned, physical forward like him but he offers something completely different.

"After that superb hat-trick, of course people are going to start asking the England question. Is he on the plane right now? No. Would I be offended if he did go? Not one bit.

"Imagine if England played France and you could send on Carroll to bully Laurent Koscielny again.

"England have a lot of good strikers at the moment, but that hat-trick has definitely put Carroll’s name in the frame."

Carroll's advantage is that he is unique in style to England's other options, with none of the alternatives possessing the aerial prowess he does.

He is a player who England boss Roy Hodgson took to Euro 2012, with Carroll even scoring in a group stage game against Sweden, but he has barely featured for England since.

Carroll played no part in qualification for Euro 2016, while the likes of Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy, Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge and Danny Welbeck are all vying for spots.

The West Ham ace's injury history could count against him, as it could Sturridge, but it may not be a surprise to see Carroll get a call-up for a pre-tournament friendly to at least state his case.
