The Scotland boss has been discussing the Newcastle faithful.

Scotland head coach Gordon Strachan says the harsh truth for Newcastle United fans is that their passion in the stands can't help the club, according to the Chronicle.

Indeed, Strachan has heaped praise on the 'wonderful' Newcastle supporters.

But he feels no one out there on the field of play is heeding any of their encouragement, ultimately rendering their support meaningless.

The Scot is quoted as telling Goals on Sunday by the Chronicle:

"It’s right what you’re saying - the 50,000+ fans in the ground every week are fantastic, they’re wonderful. But it’s the players now. The fans can’t affect tactics or anything like that, it’s got to be the players now.

"It’s all about the players at this stage of the season. Who has got it? Who has got the drive? Who’s wanting to run for them and who is wanting to jump the highest? Who wants to sprint? Who wants to run back when they lose the ball?

"It’s all about them, and I tell you what if the fans see all of that they’ll be an incredible force together - the players and the fans - but the Newcastle fans cannot do it all on their own."

Newcastle and Aston Villa fans have found themselves in very similar scenarios this season.

Supporters of two huge clubs have given absolutely everything out on the terraces.

But their players have looked woefully short of motivation. Sometimes, you just have to wonder what it is about these players' jobs that makes them so demotivated.

It looks like the Magpies and Villa squads simply have things too easy. Why try hard if they're paid so much money before a ball is even kicked...?
