Jenas started his career at Nottingham Forest and will have strong memories of the club’s better days.
The Reds have a proud history and while Jenas was dreaming of playing at the City Ground as a child, the first-team were winning back-to-back League Cup trophies in the late eighties and early nineties.
Leicester were some way off the highs Forest achieved then, yet now the roles are reversed as the Foxes seek their first ever top-flight title while their rivals struggle in the second tier.
Not one to let their East Midlands rivals forget, Leicester fans bellowed out ‘Are you watching Nottingham?’ as they defeated Sunderland 2-0 at the Stadium of Light and move ten points clear at the top of the table as a result.
Writing on Twitter during the match, Jenas admitted the Leicester taunts left a sour taste in the mouth.
Leicester city fans singing "are you watching Nottingham" that's hurts— Jermaine Jenas (@jjenas8) April 10, 2016
The East Midlands clubs, including Derby County, have had plenty of ups and downs over the years, but right now it is Leicester’s turn to be the dominant force and few could argue it has not been coming.
Forest, under the guidance of owner Fawaz Al-Hawasi, have been nothing short of a disaster while Derby’s failure to earn promotion in the last two campaigns has stalled their progress.
If Leicester win the Premier League, most would recognise the achievement as greater than what Brian Clough experienced during his days at Forest and Derby and that is what really hurts.
