Sutton discusses Ibrox side Rangers’ chances of competing with Celtic for Premiership title

Ronny Deila

Ibrox side Rangers will compete with Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership next season.

Chris Sutton has written in The Daily Record that Rangers will have a chance of winning the Scottish Premiership title next season only if Ronny Deila remains in charge of Celtic.

Rangers have already won the Scottish Championship title this season and will feature in the Scottish Premiership during the 2015-16 campaign.

Celtic are set to win the league title in the Scottish top flight yet again this campaign, but many expect them to be pushed by their Old Firm rivals next season.

Former Celtic striker Sutton believes that Rangers will have a chance of winning the league title next season if Deila remains in charge of the Bhoys.

“When Celtic do play well, as happens occasionally, everybody gets carried away,” the Englishman wrote in The Daily Record. “But it doesn’t happen nearly often enough. I think they’ll win the league next season, even with Deila in charge as I’m not getting carried away with Rangers.

“Yes, maybe Rangers CAN beat Celtic but the truth is if the Hoops players turn up and play to their full potential and Gers players play to their best Celtic will win. Celtic’s alarming poor form this season must give any team hope in a one-off shoot out.

“But if I were a Rangers player or an Aberdeen player, it would give me more hope if Deila was in charge. That’s not being disrespectful - that’s just the way it is.”

Celtic have the strongest squad in Scotland, and in all likelihood there will be signings made by the Hoops in the summer transfer window.

Rangers are also likely to bring in new players for next season, but the Gers will not start the 2016-17 campaign as favourites for the Scottish Premiership title - Celtic will.
