Leicester beat Sunderland 2-0 at the Stadium of Light to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to 10 points - at least until Tottenham Hotspur hosted Manchester United later in the day.
But the Black Cats had the chance to change things around late on, before Jamie Vardy doubled his tally at the death.
Rodwell found himself in the penalty area with a superb chance to level and Le Tissier took to Twitter in disbelief as the Sunderland man duly fired over the bar:
Very difficult skill to get it over the bar from there!— Matt Le Tissier (@mattletiss7) April 10, 2016
BBC pundit Pat Nevin agreed and was horrified by Rodwell's 'terrible, terrible miss.'
He told BBC football of the Sunderland midfielder on Sunday afternoon: "Jack Rodwell had so much time, he tried to place it but just panicked. It's a terrible, terrible miss. Huge relief for Leicester."
Are Sunderland now dead and buried or can they beat Norwich City to give themselves renewed hope in their battle against relegation?
