The Black Cats lost 2-0 at home to Leicester this afternoon.
Second-half goals from Jamie Vardy did the damage in a defeat which ensures Sam Allardyce's side stay 18th in the table, four points behind 17th-placed Norwich City albeit with a game in hand.
The Black Cats could, and definitely should, have equalised on 84 minutes but Jack Rodwell spurned a gilt-edged chance, somehow lifting his shot over the crossbar in a miss which was punished by Vardy, who scored again late on.

Sugar was similarly unimpressed with striker Jermain Defoe throughout the contest, also taking aim at the former Tottenham Hotspur man on Twitter.
Defoe has not been very good in this game— Lord Sugar (@Lord_Sugar) April 10, 2016
There is no great shame in losing to the Foxes, who took a big step toward the fairytale title, but time is running out for Sam Allardyce in which to preserve his side's top-flight status.
They go to Norwich next week in arguably their biggest game of the season.
