Andy Carroll celebrated with the match ball after an impressive hat-trick against Arsenal at the weekend.
The West Ham striker took his goal tally for the season to seven with his performance, taking advantage of poor defending from the Gunners.
Carroll's ability on his day has rarely been doubted. What has been criticised is his reliance on certain types of delivery, his inconsistency, and injury record.
He has struggled in all three of these three areas since being signed by Liverpool in 2011, for a huge fee of £35 million.
The Reds failed to recoup their outlay, and when the manager who bought him, Kenny Dalglish, was fired, then he was quickly moved on to West Ham.
His time at West Ham has been a frustrating one, but the display against Arsenal might just have been his finest moment in a Hammers shirt.
It also eclipsed anything he did for Liverpool, but his performance reminded supporters of why they paid such a colossal figure to sign him from Newcastle United in the first place.
The Reds are currently experiencing similar difficulties with Christian Benteke, who is seen as similarly cumbersome like Carroll, but an undoubted threat in an aerial situation, and could soon be sold like the West Ham ace.
Here is a look at the mixed manner in which Liverpool fans reacted to Carroll's performance...
Remember when Brendan sold Andy Carroll and bought Fabio Borini instead. Then he sold Borini and bought Benteke. Those were the days #LFC— David W Poole (@DavidWPoole73) April 9, 2016
If only Andy Carroll had played like that regularly for #LFC. Destroying Arsenal— Nick Parrott (@NickParrottTV) April 9, 2016
The Aaron cresswell cross for Carroll is what Benteke thrives on. Sadly we do not have any decent crossers here at #LFC— Stevie G (@Benthereds) April 9, 2016
