Rafa Benitez shares his Newcastle United dilemma for Southampton encounter

Newcastle United face Southampton on Saturday.

Newcastle United boss Rafa Benitez admits he has a dilemma in regards to which strikers he should start with for the upcoming clash with Southampton, Shields Gazette report.

The Magpies travel to the south coast knowing that anything less than three points will only make their task of Premier League survival all the more difficult with games quickly running out.

Newcastle have the worst scoring record in the league on their travels, having yet to reach double figures for away goals unlike Aston Villa who are being labelled one of the worst top-flight teams in history.

Benitez needs his strikers to be clinical against the Saints, and he admits he is unsure who to start.

“The good thing we have is that Papiss Cisse was good the other day, Mitrovic is scoring goals and Ayoze is doing well, so we have players who have some quality and they can help,” Benitez told Shields Gazette.

"It's a problem for me, because I have to decide, but it's good news for us because we have more players now. As I have always said, competition between players is good for the team."

While Benitez has tried to put a positive spin in regards to his striker selection headache, in truth the trio mentioned haven’t produced enough in-front of goal this season and they now need to perform.

Aleksandar Mitrovic should be considered as the club’s number one striker due to his recent goal contributions, yet playing him alongside another striker leaves Newcastle light in midfield.

Benitez is a renowned tactician and specialises in making his teams difficult to beat, yet right now only wins will save the Magpies from the drop and risks must be taken as a result.

Newcastle are six points behind Norwich City who face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park this weekend.
