The Gunners looked slick early on and found themselves two goals to the good as attacking duo Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez combined with youngster Alex Iwobi to put the visitors on their way.
Yet, minutes before half-time, Carroll spectacularly brought the Hammers back into it with two quick-fire goals before going on to complete his hat-trick minutes after the interval with another bullet header.
Arsenal simply didn’t know how to deal with the former Newcastle United man, and Ferdinand felt a performance of this ilk was worthy of a place in the England team on the condition he remains fit.
With Andy Carroll in ya team....don't mess about...put the ball in the box and he will cause havoc. He stays fit then get him on the plane— Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) April 9, 2016
Carroll’s aerial presence is very much among the best in the world and with the right service the striker has the ability to make such a difference, as illustrated at the Boleyn Ground.
The Gunners’ back four struggled to deal with his height and physicality throughout, and the striker totalled a whopping ten shots throughout as he constantly created space for himself.
England do have a number of striker options with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane, Danny Welbeck, Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy jostling for a place, yet Carroll offers something completely different.
The 27-year-old was magnificent throughout, yet his hat-trick wasn’t enough to earn West Ham all three points as Laurent Koscielny equalised not long after Carroll’s third to earn a share of the spoils.
