The winger bagged his side's goal in the 3-1 loss to Southampton.
One bright spark was Andros Townsend’s goal, with the former Tottenham man arrowing a 25-yard striker into the top corner of Fraser Forster’s net to give his side a glimmer of hope.
One man who was impressed by the strike was former midfielder Gutierrez, who tweeted his approval during the game.
He wasn’t the only one impressed either, with Trevor Sinclair telling BBC Sport that more of the Newcastle squad need to step up in the same manner.
“Forget about the situation, that is an unbelievable individual goal from Andros Townsend,” he said.
“They need more players taking the game by the scruff of the neck like that.”
It will be interesting to see if Townsend remains at the club this summer should they be relegated to the Championship.
There is no denying he sees himself as a Premier League player and similarly, there are surely several clubs who would consider him worth the gamble next season.
If a move materialises though remains to be seen, with the Magpies highly unlikely to get the money they paid Spurs for his services in January.
