Former West Ham star explains why 29-year-old has got a lot of catching up to do

Phil Parkes speaks highly of West Ham United duo Adrian and Darren Randolph.

Former West Ham United goalkeeper Phil Parkes has explained on the club’s official website why Adrian is still a young player.

Adrian is one of the senior players in the current West Ham squad at the age of 29, having joined the Premier League outfit in the summer of 2013.

The Spaniard is a very reliable goalkeeper and is one of the best - and probably underrated - in his position in the Premier League.

Parkes rates the former Real Betis custodian highly and has described him as a “special signing”, but he believes that he is still very young in terms of his career.

The former Queens Park Rangers star has also spoken highly of Darren Randolph, who is the second-choice goalkeeper at West Ham.

“As an ex-goalkeeper, I keep an eye on the keepers and Adrian has been a special signing for the club,” Parkes wrote on West Ham’s official website.

“He’s very young in terms of his career and he’s played 100 games by the time he’s 29 – I’d played that when I was 19! He’s got a lot of catching up to do, and that’s what I like about him. He’s still got years of getting better.

“Also on Darren Randolph, he’s another really great goalkeeper and there’s great competition between the two of them.”

West Ham are having a great season and could end up in the top four of the Premier League.

Slaven Bilic’s side are sixth in the league table at the moment with 51 points from 31 matches.

The London outfit are three points behind Manchester City, who are currently fourth in the standings and occupy the final Champions League spot.
