Confirmed Southampton v Newcastle lineups: Mitrovic and Perez start up front

Southampton take on Newcastle in the Premier League today.

Southampton will be looking to bounce back from last week's 1-0 away defeat Leicester City when they take on Newcastle United this afternoon.

Ronald Koeman's men had won their previous two games before losing against the league leaders, and face a very different challenge this afternoon against a struggling Newcastle side.

The Saints have dropped Cedric Soares to the bench in favour of Cuco Martina at right back, whilst Dusan Tadic starts despite questions about his future this week.

Former Newcastle target Charlie Austin is on the bench, as is fellow forward Jay Rodriguez, who has had an injury nightmare for two years now.

Meanwhile, Newcastle desperately need a result in order to boost their survival odds, having lost 3-2 at Norwich last weekend.

The Magpies now sit six points adrift of safety, and Rafael Benitez must pick up points this afternoon to have a chance of staying up.

Today, Benitez has selected Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic up front together, leaving Papiss Cisse on the bench after his poor display against Norwich.

Vurnon Anita starts at left back this afternoon, whilst there are starts for January signings Andros Townsend and Jonjo Shelvey.

The likes of Siem de Jong, Cheick Tiote and Gabriel Obertan have all been named on the bench this afternoon.
