Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino comments on Eric Dier's yellow card accumulation

Spurs midfielder Dier is one yellow card away from a two game suspension.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino is getting his players prepared for a crunch Premier League clash with Manchester United this weekend and today spoke to the press about the game.

The clash could set Tottenham up for a final surge for the Premier League title, but there is the spectre of suspension hanging over the head of one of their star players this term.

Eric Dier has been in superb form in holding midfield this season but his position and his aggressive style of play mean he picks up bookings on a regular basis.

He is currently on nine for the season, which means he is one away from a potentially damaging two game suspension.

But Pochettino is not worried about something that is out of his control.

He is quoted by Sky Sports as telling his press conference today:

“Dier is a very clever player but always, in football, you can get the yellow card. It’s a big risk but we have a strong squad. In football you must always give your best and play free, and not think too much."

Dier has been a revelation in the holding midfield role this season. The protection he has offered the likes of Mousa Dembele, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen has helped them all thrive and it has also added a layer of defence ahead of the defenders.

But a booking now could be very damaging for Tottenham’s title chances. Don’t expect Dier to change his style though.
