Rob Elliot tweets injury update after leaving hospital, jokes about Harry Potter

Newcastle Utd - Gate

The Newcastle goalkeeper has undergone successful knee surgery.

Rob Elliot has confirmed he is out of hospital after his successful knee surgery but the Newcastle United shot stopper says he has to rest for several days before returning to the club.

The goalkeeper was injured on international duty, adding his name to the physio's table at St James' Park, with first-choice stopper Tim Krul already out for the season.

That has forced Karl Darlow to play in between the sticks for the Magpies, with the youngster under pressure to perform during a vital time for Newcastle.

Elliot, meanwhile, is out of hospital and has joked that he will be watching plenty of Harry Potter before he returns to club duty.

Newcastle travel to Southampton on Sunday afternoon following their 3-2 loss to Norwich City.

Things look very bleak indeed for the Magpies but it now seems to be about who the club can hold on to - and is worth holding on to - for their Championship campaign next season.
