According to GianlucaDiMarzio, Chelsea are closing in on a deal for Roma’s Radja Nainggolan.
The Italian report claims that talks between his agent, Roma’s sporting director Walter Sabatini and Chelsea representatives have begun in London over a £28 million deal with possible bonuses.
The Belgium international midfielder is in his second full season with Roma after joining the Italian giants from fellow Serie A side Cagliari in the summer of 2014.
Capable of playing both as a holding midfielder or a more attack-minded playmaker, Nainggolan has featured 29 times in Serie A this season while making a further seven appearances in the Champions League.
Chelsea are having a poor domestic campaign which cost Jose Mourinho his job in December.
Italy national team boss Antonio Conte is set to takeover at Stamford Bridge this summer, and the former Juventus manager will know all about Nainggolan’s capabilities from his time in Turin.
The Blues will need a number of fresh faces this summer as they look to replace an ageing first-team squad, and a new midfielder to help Cesc Fabergas and Nemanja Matic appears to be high on the agenda.
Nainggolan would bring plenty of energy and discipline to Chelsea’s midfield, and on evidence of reports thus far it seems likely a switch to Stamford Bridge will happen when the summer transfer window opens.
