Former Queens Park Rangers and Rangers midfielder Ray Wilkins predicted on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Thursday morning (broadcast from 6am, April 7) that both Newcastle United and Sunderland will drop points in the Premier League this weekend.
Newcastle will take on Southampton away from home at St. Mary’s Stadium in the league on Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday afternoon, Sunderland will face league leaders Leicester City at the Stadium of Light.
Former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Wilkins has predicted Newcastle to lose and Sunderland to pick up a point from their respective matches this weekend.
“I like Southampton,” said the former England international on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Thursday morning (broadcast from 6am, April 7). “I think Ronald Koeman is ready for a massive job, I really do, one of the big boys. He hasn’t been mentioned as far as they are concerned, but I am going to go for them to win 2-1.”
When asked to predict the outcome of the match between Sunderland and Leicester, Wilkins said: “I am going to go 1-1.”
Southampton have an outside chance of finishing in the top four of the Premier League this season, and the Saints will be favourites to win against Newcastle.
Leicester will fancy their chances against Sunderland, but the Black Cats will be confident of picking up at least a point due to home advantage.
