The European Cup-winning midfielder has been linked with a return to the City Ground as manager.
The Kuwaiti said on Thursday that Forest were in talks with two experienced British managers, both of whom have Nottingham links and have taken clubs into the Premier League.
Two names that tick all three of those boxes are Nigel Pearson and Martin O'Neill, and while the former has been heavily linked with the post since it was vacated by Dougie Freedman in March, O'Neill has been nothing more than a speculative suggestion so far.
By Friday, the former Forest winger, a member of the club's double European Cup winning side, was the name on everyone's lips, with Reds supporters taking to Twitter to give the speculation their backing.
Some though, appeared to think far too hard about Fawaz's comments and got themselves a little distracted.
Here's the best of the reaction so far:
Martin O'Neill down to 6/1? I think I'm having a male crisis! #nffc— Chris Hutchinson (@TheChrisH4) 7 April 2016
If and I mean IF it's Martin O'Neill, I hope Roy Keane follows him as assistant manager to scare the useless pricks into shape. #nffc— Luke Porter (@LukePortah) 7 April 2016
@fawaz_alhasawi1 please boss bring Martin O'Neill to are great club that would put a good smile on all forest fans— Brian (@forestBri) 7 April 2016
Would love an O'Neill/Keane combo at Forest but can't see both coming. Happy with Pearson too— Joe Harrod (@joeharrod12) 7 April 2016
Fawaz talking to "British' managers eh? Dammit - counts MON out given he's Northern Irish. Either that or he's crap at Geography #nffc— Kenneth Field (@kennethfield) 7 April 2016
FYI - O'Neill holds a British passport, according to the Irish Post...
Lol at the fans who are ruling O'Neill out because he's 'not British'. I suggest you do your research #NFFC— Dan (@Dan_LowerBC) 8 April 2016
#nffc for those budding sleuths trying to unravel Fawaz's cryptic clues about the next manager, Martin O'Neil is NOT British.— Gary Baldy Red (@Garibaldi_Blog) 8 April 2016
I think Leicester fans might beg to differ on that one, Gary...
