The German international defender would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool.
The Reds picked up an impressive result, drawing 1-1 at Signal Iduna Park and taking an important away goal back to Anfield thanks to a first-half strike from Divock Origi.
Two players that impressed in Dortmund were the Liverpool centre-backs.
Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho have had their issues at Liverpool but both played extremely well in this fixture.
One former Liverpool defender was certainly impressed.
Stephane Henchoz spent six years at Liverpool but also spent time in German football with Hamburg.
The 72-time Switzerland international had this to say about the Liverpool defence when speaking to talkSPORT this morning (08/04/16):
“For me the big question mark was, before the game, is the Liverpool defence good enough actually to play against a strong Dortmund side with a lot of attacking power?
“I think yesterday they did well. Sakho and Lovren did very well.”
He was then asked about Dortmund’s star on the night Mats Hummels. The German international was in excellent form and even got on the scoresheet.
Henchoz was asked about a potential Klopp-Hummels reunion at Liverpool next season and suggested Liverpool would be right to pursue him:
“I think obviously Hummels is a proven top-class defender.
“Will he want to come to Liverpool? That is another question. But obviously we have seen last night he is very comfortable on the ball. He is very good in the air, he actually scored a great header, and he is a top-class defender.
“He is somebody that Liverpool would probably want to bring in.”
Liverpool would certainly like the idea of the World Cup winner heading to Anfield this summer but luring him away from Dortmund would indeed be a tough task.
But perhaps Klopp is the only man who could do so.
