The West Bromwich Albion manager has suggested he might use the remaining weeks of the campaign to blood more youngsters in the first team.
West Bromwich Albion manager Tony Pulis has hinted that he may well give more promising youngsters at the club a chance to get some first-team football under their belt in the remaining weeks of the season, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
Pulis handed 16-year-old Jonathan Leko his Premier League debut as a substitute in the 0-0 draw at Sunderland on Saturday, and the forward admitted he was stunned to have been given the opportunity to become the first player born in 1999 to appear in the top flight.
With it being hugely unlikely that Albion, who reached 40 points with the stalemate at the Stadium of Light, will be drawn back into a relegation battle, the Baggies boss can use the remaining seven matches to experiment with his side if he chooses.
The 58-year-old revealed that Leko is not the only young star pushing for first-team action, and admitted that he could well throw one or two more into the mix before the season is out.
Pulis said, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail: "I think there's a chance and an opportunity for kids to come in and have a little feel for it.
"Leko is a talent, I spoke to him after the game and he just couldn't believe how quick the game was. The crowd and everything else, it was a fabulous place to make your debut at 16.
"There's one or two others as well we might just give them a little taste."
The paper speculates that the leading candidate to follow in Leko's footsteps is likely to be 17-year-old forward Tyler Roberts, who has been included in senior squads on occasion this season but is yet to feature.
The draw at relegation-threatened Sunderland leaves the Baggies having lost just one of their last six matches, and they have gone from looking nervously over their shoulder to knocking on the door of the top half.
They will be hoping to push on up into higher mid-table by taking advantage of Manchester City's fatigue from a pulsating Champions League quarter-final first leg on Wednesday night when they travel to the Etihad on Saturday evening.
