Reports in Italy today are suggesting that Newcastle United midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is wanted by several of Italian football’s biggest clubs.
The trio of clubs are said to have been keen on his signing last season before Newcastle United ended up bringing him in from PSV Eindhoven in the summer.
Now the Italian clubs believe they have a chance of getting their man with Newcastle looking unlikely to escape relegation to the Championship.
It comes in a week in which Wijnaldum was non-committal about his future with the Toon.
"My role is indeed still a bit unclear. But I am no different in this situation.
"Do I have a clause that I can leave if relegated? I do not give information about what is in my contract. I do not think about it until the end of the season, focus on the upcoming matches.
“The club is working hard to put everything in a row and I am confident that we will be okay. "
It would certainly seem unlikely for the Dutch international to want to play in the second tier of English football next season, especially as he has been one of the only Newcastle players to come out of the current campaign with any real credit.
Now the idea of moving to one of Italy’s top clubs will be yet another factor luring him away from St James’ Park.
