Report: Paul Dummett and Fabricio Coloccini return to Newcastle United training

Newcastle United are set to take on Southampton at the weekend.

According to a report in the Shields Gazette, Fabricio Coloccini and Paul Dummett have both returned to Newcastle United training.

The defensive pair have been out of action in Newcastle’s recent matches through injury.

Coloccini has been on the treatment table since February after picking up a calf strain, while Dummett has not played for just over a month.

However, the duo have both returned to training - as Newcastle’s season enters a crucial period.

Coloccini could even be back for Newcastle’s match against Southampton at the weekend, but the match will come too soon for Dummett.

The return of the duo will be welcomed by Newcastle supporters, as their options have been short at the back of late.

Rafael Benitez has been forced to start players out of position at left-back, while the inexperienced Jamaal Lascelles has been regularly picked in the centre of defence.

Newcastle are currently six points adrift of safety, with just seven league games remaining to play this season.
