Everton supporters have criticised the way that Roberto Martinez has dealt with Leighton Baines’ recent comments to the press on social media site Twitter.
Baines suggested that Everton’s squad had no chemistry (Liverpool Echo), after they were beaten 1-0 by Manchester United in their latest outing.
And Martinez revealed to the Liverpool Echo at his press conference this morning that he had words with Baines for his public admission.
“I’ve had a chat with him and he knows he has to take responsibility for those words,” the Spanish boss said. “He’s apologised and taken responsibility for leaving those words open."
Baines’ comments were largely supported by Everton fans, after he made them, with the club’s fan base suggesting that it was nice to hear the truth about their poor form.
They have, therefore, been left frustrated about the action that Martinez has taken while dealing with the left-back.
@philkecho Why does he need to apologise? As fans, we're all glad he's admitted it and confirmed what most of us have suspected.— Mike Lawson (@mikelawson92) April 7, 2016
Martinez’s positon as Everton manager is coming under increasing scrutiny by the week, as the Merseyside club have badly disappointed this season.
