Chelsea talent Ruben Loftus-Cheek comments on friendship and healthy competition with Tottenham star Dele Alli

The England under-21 international is good friends with the Tottenham star.

Tottenham Hotspur have certainly had a gem in their squad this season in the form of Dele Alli. He arrived at the club from MK Dons in the summer after spending time back on loan in the Football League before becoming a permanent Tottenham player.

He has been shining a light on the idea of playing young players in the Premier League and a club like Chelsea can certainly learn a thing or two from Tottenham.

For example, if Ruben Loftus-Cheek was a Spurs player, it is fair to say he would be playing more regularly in the top-flight.

The 20-year-old has long been heralded as one of the top young English footballer’s around but first-team opportunities have been hard to come by.

Speaking to the London Evening Standard this week he explained how he is hoping to follow in the footsteps of his Tottenham pal from next season:

“Dele’s had a lot of chances to play at Tottenham and has taken them well. It shows how far you can get.

“He is doing well in the England team and that gives other young players coming through the belief as well.

“I’ve been good friends with Dele for a long time…he’s a really nice guy.

"You want to do your best individually but healthy competition is good to push you on.

“We are not trying to be better than each other in a confrontational kind of way, you just want to do the best for yourself. That drives you forward.”

Loftus-Cheek made an impact at the weekend – scoring in a 4-0 win against Aston Villa.

Chelsea will have a new manager in Antonio Conte from next season and it will be interesting to see how the Italian rates the England under-21 international.

Hopefully he can go on to have the same impact that Tottenham Hotspur’s young hero has this campaign.
