The Egypt international joined the Gunners from Swiss side Basel in the January transfer window.
While most supporters were expecting a big-name signing from abroad, Elneny arrived as an unknown quantity and pressure was immediately on him to prove his capabilities at the top level.
Speaking to reporters, Coquelin feel Arsenal’s new addition has exceeded expectations and assures with time that their midfield partnership will only get stronger and stronger.
"It’s going well, he’s a great addition to the squad. He’s settled really quickly, because don’t forget he’s only been here for two months. I thought he was fantastic in the game against Barcelona, and against Everton as well,” Coquelin told the LES.
“We are getting stronger each game, and if it can carry on this way it will be a good partnership. To be honest though, we have got lots of quality players in the middle, so any players that play in there can perform.”
Elneny is very much a box-to-box type midfielder, capable of sitting back and putting in the tackles while also equally apt at joining in with attacks and getting in on the end of the team moves.
He opened his Arsenal account with a superb 20-yard strike in the Champions League defeat at Barcelona, and it was a goal which had been coming with earlier strikes troubling the Spanish giants.
Elneny, 23, undoubtedly fits the profile as an Arsene Wenger type signing and he has everything in his locker to become a top player and a real crowd favourite at the Emirates Stadium.
