The emergence of Alex Iwobi has coincided with the Gunners resurgence, but many believe they are still short of quality in forward areas.
Former West Ham United and Norwich City striker Dean Ashton has slammed Arsène Wenger for not signing a world class striker, saying the Frenchman has cost the Gunners their chance at Premier league glory.
Speaking to 888Sport, Ashton highlighted the North London outfit's need for a top striker:
"I personally think they do need to go out and get a Higuain or a Cavani type of player who can really take them on to the next level."
He also went on to say how the current crop of strikers at the Emirates are not at the level required to achieve success:
"He could be linked with all these names again and nothing will happen then he’ll say he’s keeping Welbeck, Giroud and with Iwobi coming through now he’ll say that’s enough. They’ve missed their chance."
Arsenal have been profligate in front of goal this season, scoring only 52 goals in 31 Premier League games, and Ashton feels things could have been so different:
"If you put Agüero into that team you can’t see how they wouldn’t have won the Premier league title this year."
Wenger has been in line for heavy criticism this season, with his side third in the table, and 11 points behind league leaders Leicester City.
His Arsenal side face a tricky trip to Upton Park on Saturday, where three points will be a must if they are to exert any kind of pressure onto the Foxes.
