Garth Crooks admires Arsenal youngster Hector Bellerin's ambition

Former footballer Garth Crooks was impressed with Hector Bellerin's performance for Arsenal in the 4-0 win over Watford.

BBC pundit Garth Crooks has hailed the attacking intent of Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin.

The Spanish defender was selected in Crooks' Premier League Team of the Week following his performance in the 4-0 home win over out-of-form Watford.

Goals from Alexis Sanchez, Alex Iwobi, Bellerin and Theo Walcott sealed a comfortable victory in the London derby as the Gunners refused to give up their title ambitions at Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal remain 11 points behind league leaders Leicester City but Arsene Wenger’s men still have an additional game to play.

Former Barcelona academy product Bellerin, 21, has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in north London, featuring in 29 league fixtures for the title hopefuls.

Following his first goal of the season - a deflected effort from outside the area that bamboozled Hornets goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes - the player-turned-pundit Crooks had no hesitation with naming the youngster in his best XI.

“I just love full-backs who like to get into the mix and Hector Bellerin seems to be doing that an awful lot these days,” Crooks told the BBC.

“He originally lost the ball to Watford’s Ikechi Anya but then through sheer persistence won it back before he and Alexis Sanchez manipulated a situation that cost Watford dearly.

“On their day, Arsenal can compete with the best and brushed Watford aside in what was a rather predictable outcome.

"However, if Bellerin and his team-mates harbour serious intentions about winning the Premier League title, they must shed their inhibitions, particularly in front of their home crowd – and play without fear.”
