The former midfielder believes his old side need to improve defensively to be title challengers.
The Reds are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window; with many predicting Jurgen Klopp will look to mould the squad in his image.
The defence will arguably be his main priority, given they have conceded 41 so far in this campaign, an average of 1.37 per game.
That is far worse than the record currently held by those teams occupying the top four, which is where Klopp’s side desire to be once more.
And Redknapp says they must find a dominant centre back if they are to be title contenders next season.
“I think they need to get someone in defence,” he told Sky Sports.
“They have got to try and find a dominant centre back. It is a major problem for them. Going forward they have shown that they’ve got quality in their team.”
There is no denying that the defence is an issue for this current Reds outfit, and it appears Klopp is already aware of it.
His side have already secured the signing of Joel Matip on a free transfer from Schalke and they will be hoping he proves to be a big hit in the Premier League.
He may not be the only defender to arrive though, with Alberto Moreno having struggled to impress again in the left back position.
