Liverpool may not have title chance next season, says Jamie Carragher

The former defender says getting back to the Champions League should be their main aim.

Liverpool will not have a hope of winning the title next season if the other teams do what they normally do, Jamie Carragher has told Sky Sports.

The Reds are expected to be busy in the summer transfer window, with many predicting Jurgen Klopp will want to mould the squad to suit his needs.

If he can do that, as well as put in a successful pre-season, there is hope he could turn the Reds into genuine title contenders at some point in future.

Carragher though, believes that if the other teams do what they normally do, namely the likes of Chelsea, then his old team won’t be title contenders.

For him, their focus should be on returning to the top four and more importantly, the Champions League.

“I think with Liverpool and the title, I don’t see that if the other teams do what they normally do,” he told Sky Sports.

“I think for Liverpool next season it will be about trying to get back into the Champions League. But if it’s another strange season then fingers crossed.”

Liverpool’s hopes next season will likely rest on the work that Klopp can do in the summer transfer window.

The general is that the current squad is not up to the standard required, with several areas needing improvement.

The defence will arguably be his priority given how that has yet again struggled as the likes of Mamadou Sakho, Dejan Lovren and Martin Skrtel fail to impress.
