Leeds boss Steve Evans explains why Bamba missed out and Bellusci started against QPR

Leeds are facing Queens Park Rangers at Elland Road this evening.

Leeds United manager Steve Evans has told LUTV that Sol Bamba is only on the bench against QPR tonight because he's suffering from an illness.

The Whites lost 2-1 away at Rotherham United on Saturday afternoon, with defender Giuseppe Bellusci enduring an absolute nightmare performance.

The Italian's comical error in injury-time - trying and completely failing to overhead kick the ball away from danger - led to Marco Silvestri's red card and Rotherham winning the game from the penalty spot.

Many expected Bellusci to be dropped for tonight's game against QPR at Elland Road, but whilst Liam Cooper did come into the team, it was alongside Bellusci rather than instead of him.

Cooper actually came in for Sol Bamba, who was left on the bench for tonight's game in a surprise move - but manager Evans has explained that decision,

Evans told LUTV that Bamba has picked up an illness and subsequently misses the game, yet despite being 'under the weather', he is okay to be a substitute this evening.

Evans did suggest that he was already looking to make changes to his defence having struggled against Rotherham, and even hinted that Bamba's illness actually made his decision easier.

"Sol misses out and drops to the bench," said Evans. "He's just turned up, he's feeling a little bit under the weather, so he's not 100%. We were possibly going to change the central defensive area, but that allowed Pepe to stay in the team with Liam centrally, so that became an easier decision," he added.
