Ex-West Ham youngster Oscar Borg tweets positive update on his start at Aston Villa

The 18-year-old wide man joined Villa from West Ham United last month on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

New Aston Villa youngster Oscar Borg seems to be making a good first impression at Bodymoor Heath.

The 18-year-old wide man took to Twitter on Monday night to reveal that he is already training with the first-team just two weeks after being signed from West Ham United on a deal until the summer of 2018.

Once dubbed “the new Gareth Bale”, Borg had been on West Ham’s books since the age of 12 after joining the Hammers from AFC Wimbledon and was considered one of the club’s top prospects prior to this season.

The highly-rated free-kick specialist, who can play anywhere down the left flank, reportedly even came close to joining Manchester United in 2014 after having a successful trial at Old Trafford but a potential move fell through after the two sides could not agree terms over a suitable compensation package [h/t Daily Mail].

His progress at the Boleyn Ground had seemingly stalled over the past year, leading to his departure ahead of his scholarship contract expiring in the summer, but Villa will have a special talent on their hands if he goes on to fulfil his much-touted potential.

The fact that he is already training with the senior squad certainly serves as a positive sign for the future, and with the club preparing for life in the Championship, it would not be a surprise if he was making an impact in the first-team as soon as next season.
