Aston Villa fans have had a mixed reaction to the rumours suggesting that Mick McCarthy could become their next manager (Daily Mirror).
Villa are already planning for their impending relegation from the Premier League, and they are on the hunt for a new manager to replace Remi Garde.
The French boss was dismissed last week, after a disastrous time at the Midlands club.
Garde won just three times in the Premier League during his time at Villa Park, and he left them while they were sitting 12 points adrift of safety.
That gap has been extended by a further three points, after the Claret and Blues lost to Chelsea last weekend, and it means that their relegation now appears inevitable.
Villa reportedly now want to appoint a manager with experience of the Championship and Ipswich Town manager McCarthy fits that description.
McCarthy has also stated that he is flattered with the links suggesting he could become the next Villa boss.
It seems that his appointment would not be unanimously welcomed by supporters of the Claret and Blues, though.
Here is the best reaction to the rumours on social media site Twitter.
McCarthy the most talked about candidate now by the media. What do people think of him? He seems more than ready to take on the task. #avfc— Christer (@Chrsmo) April 4, 2016
If villa appoint Mick McCarthy we'll be even more of a laughing stock than we already are. And I won't go anywhere near VP #avfc— Holte1971 (@Holte1971) April 3, 2016
