His main reason is that United still have to travel to Upton Park - one of the toughest stadiums to visit in the top flight.
And Gale told Sky Sports News on Monday morning: "United are grinding out results but they still have to travel to Upton Park, so West Ham could yet finish above them."
A win for West Ham at home to United would make all the difference and put them back up ahead of Louis van Gaal's men.
The only problem, of course, is that there is so much football to be played before that. West Ham host Arsenal next weekend and things don't get any easier for Slaven Bilic's side in their bid for a Champions League place.
That said, West Ham are still on form - whereas Manchester United clearly aren't playing well but just grinding out results.
