Sunderland defender Younes Kaboul comments on helping former club Tottenham Hotspur's title fight

Kaboul And Gallas

The Frenchman had two spells at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham Hotspur lost ground in the title race this weekend as they drew with Liverpool and Leicester City picked up a crucial 1-0 win over Southampton.

The result means Spurs are now seven points behind Leicester – who increasingly look like they are going to win the Premier League title.

So Tottenham are going to be needing a favour from some of the other teams in the Premier League – with Sunderland up next.

The Black Cats are currently fighting relegation and take on Leicester at the Stadium of Light next weekend and go into the game doing their best to stave off relegation.

One former Spurs player has now revealed that he expects to receive a phonecall or two from some former colleagues.

Younes Kaboul told the Chronicle:

“Next week is a huge game, we can’t just help our own situation but it can affect the title race as well. It is nothing to do with my former club for me now, we just have to help ourselves.

“I will be expecting a few calls from my former Spurs team-mates in the next few days. To them it is just important that we beat Leicester. I am just concentrating on Sunderland and that is all that matters to me.”

Kaboul, who spent two separate spells at Spurs as a player, won’t be alone in the Sunderland camp hoping to help out Spurs.

Tottenham also have DeAndre Yedlin out on loan at the club and will be hoping he can have a big impact on the title race himself.

Leicester will be hoping to avoid a potential banana skin however and Tottenham might end up disappointed.
