Charlie Nicholas says he’s heard enough from Per Mertesacker

The former Arsenal star was responding to comments by Mesut Ozil.

Charlie Nicholas says he’s heard enough from Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker this season, in comments to Sky Sports Soccer Saturday.

The former Gunners forward was speaking in lights of comments made by Mesut Ozil about his side title challenge.

The German midfielder recently told Spox that his side had messed up their challenge with them currently trailing Leicester City by 11 points.

Manager Arsene Wenger did not welcome those comments, telling journalists he would speak to his star midfielder about his comments.

Nicholas though says he agreed with what Ozil had to say, adding that he was pleased it wasn’t Mertesacker who said it as he’s heard enough from him already.

“Ozil was bang on when he said, and I’m glad it was him that said, not Mertesacker,” he told Soccer Saturday.

“I’ve heard enough from him this season to be honest. I give him value for being in the dressing room and being a part of the group.”

“But there’s some other players who need to come out, stand up, and say what is going wrong in their opinion.”

Ozil’s comments were certainly interesting given how Arsenal have faltered in the title race this season.

There is no denying they should be doing better, especially given how their main rivals have all struggled this season to leave the likes of Leicester and Tottenham as clear favourites.

This should have been their season to win it and it seems the Gunners squad are more than aware of that failure.
