German outfit Dortmund will take on Premier League side Liverpool at home in the first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday evening.
Nicholas has backed the Reds to lose the match 2-0 to the Bundesliga side at Signal Iduna Park.
“Dortmund have bags of pace and I just think they'll be able to punish the mistakes that Liverpool make at the back and for that reason I think Klopp's men simply have to score to have any chance of progressing,” the former Arsenal forward wrote on Skysports.com.
“The one hope I do give them is that Anfield is a really special place on European nights, but so is Westfalenstadion and it's going to be a big ask for them to leave with the tie still alive.”
A footnote added: “Charlie predicts: 2-0.”
Liverpool’s recent results have been mixed, and it is hard to see them win against Dortmund in Germany.
The Bundesliga outfit have some truly brilliant players, such as Marco Reus, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, and they are bound to score.
The Reds do have quality upfront to find the target, but the problem is that defensively they are still vulnerable.
If Liverpool can score a goal at Signal Iduna Park, then they will have a small chance of progressing to the semi-finals.
The first leg will be key. A heavy defeat for the Reds will virtually guarantee their exit from the Europa League.
The match will also be special for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, who was a massive success during his time as manager of Dortmund.
