Report: Celtic make decision about Derk Boerrigter's future after no appearances since 2014

Celtic

Celtic winger Derk Boerrigter is set to leave the club.

According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic have agreed a deal to release winger Derk Boerrigter from his contract three months early.

Boerrigter, 29, joined the Bhoys from Dutch side Ajax back in 2013, arriving in a deal for an alleged £3m according to BBC Sport at the time of his signing.

The winger arrived with some optimism around his signature, having hit 16 goals in 66 games for Ajax, and a superb 29 goals in 70 games for previous club RKC Waalwijk.

However, Boerrigter's time in Glasgow has been nothing short of miserable. One goal in 23 games in his first season was far from impressive, and he has remarkably made only three appearances since the end of the 2013-14 season.

His last showing game back in the summer of 2014 against Maribor, and whilst injuries have ravaged Boerrigter during his time with Celtic, his performances also haven't been much to write home about.

Now, with just three months left on his contract, The Scottish Sun report that Celtic have agreed to pay off the rest of Boerrigter's deal and release him immediately.

If true, it brings an end to three miserable years in Scotland for Boerrigter, and Celtic get him off their books early in a thoroughly predictable divorce.
