Newcastle had looked to be on their way to claiming a valuable point at Carrow Road, after twice coming from behind against Alex Neil’s side.
However, Martin Olsson scored a dramatic winner for the Canaries, to ensure that Norwich picked up a huge three points.
The defeat leaves Newcastle’s chances of survival looking slim - with the Tynesiders now sitting six points adrift of safety, with just seven games to play.
But Benitez has told his players to move on from their defeat to Norwich, and make sure that they are at the top of their game against Southampton on Saturday.
"We have to think about Southampton then try and improve and get ready for the next game and try to get three points in the next one,” the former Real Madrid boss said.
"I told the players after the game the only way is to keep pushing and keep working hard and we can do it.”
Benitez is still waiting for his first Newcastle win since taking over from Steve McClaren.
The Spanish manager has taken just one point from his first three matches in charge, and time is running out for him to find the winning formula.
Newcastle’s next match comes against Southampton at St. Mary’s, before they face two crucial home games against Swansea City and Manchester City.
