Phil Jones returned to action for Manchester United last night, and had a rough night off the pitch as well as on it.
He was in action for the under-21 side against Chelsea, and was led a merry dance all game by gifted Blues youngster Kasey Palmer, who gave the senior defender real trouble.
Jones was ruthlessly criticised by United fans on social media, who pondered whether this was a decisive moment in whether Jones even has a future at Old Trafford.
United still managed to secure a 1-1 draw, with the impressive James Weir scoring for the Red Devils.
Jones' performance can be put down to rustiness up against a vibrant Chelsea team with a lot to prove, and it should be positive that he came through the match physically unscathed.
It is easy to see why United fans are frustrated with him. After signing in 2012, Jones has failed to kick on for his club and nail down a position, or stay fit regularly.
Despite featuring for England versus Spain in a friendly in November, he faces a challenge to win a place in the Euro 2016 squad.
Here is a look at how United fans reacted to his latest display...
Phil Jones not exactly covering himself in glory in this U21 game... #mufc— Adam Green (@hurtingthumbs) April 4, 2016
Breaking news!! Phil Jones has not injured himself yet in the U21 game. Early days though. #MUFC— The MUFC Syndicate (@gavi27) April 4, 2016
Why is Phil Jones still a #MUFC player? Even w/o the injury proneness (Which is Wilshere level), he's still not good enough. Fosu-Mensah >.— Jaydn_MUFC (@JaydnMUFC) April 4, 2016
