Leeds United are set to host Queens Park Rangers tomorrow evening.
Bellusci has faced the wrath of Leeds fans after he made an inexplicable error which cost his side a point against Rotherham United last weekend.
The Italian defender tried to overhead a cross, rather than head it away to safety, and his missed clearance led to the penalty which provided Rotherham with the chance to score from the spot and seal the victory.
It was not the first mistake that Bellusci has made in a Leeds shirt, and many of the Yorkshire club’s fans have grown frustrated with his erratic style of defending.
However, Evans has defended the 26-year-old centre-back earlier today, suggesting that his performance was excellent before he made the error.
“I think the first thing you do as a manager, is that you don’t hang a player out to dry for a mistake,” Evans said, when asked whether Bellusci would be dropped.
“We all know the ramifications of the mistake that Peppe made, but for 88 minutes he was outstanding. You have to take a view across the whole game.
“But we also have Liam Cooper available for us, who was outstanding before he went out through injury. We have good options.”
Leeds head into their match against QPR having put in two poor performances in succession.
The Whites were beat 4-1 in their last outing at Elland Road, before their defeat against Rotherham, meaning that they will be under pressure to get back to winning ways on Tuesday evening.
If Leeds are to beat QPR they could move up to 12th place in the Championship table.
