Former teammate shares why he thinks John Terry will be staying at Chelsea

John Terry looks set to leave Chelsea this summer, a decision the club would regret according to one of their former heroes.

Terry announced he had not been offered a new deal earlier his year bringing his time at Stamford Bridge to an end as a result.

Speculation has been rife since about his possible destination and whether the Blues could perform a u-turn under fan pressure.

But according to the likes of the Telegraph, Chelsea have been collating tributes from former players and managers to their most successful ever captain.

'He is Mr Chelsea'

Letting their legendary defender leave would be a mistake according to his former teammate of six years Salomon Kalou.

But it is a mistake Kalou told BT Sport he doesn't believe will be allowed to happen.

"I think he will sign, I think he will stay," Kalou told BT Sport.

"I think you need a Chelsea figure like John, the fans need that and I think I can say from my experience when I was there John is the people's man.

"He is the guy who can sit down with people at the club, players, managers, owners, there is nothing in the club that John can't be part of.

"He is Mr Chelsea. They won the league last year because John was unbelievable.

"For me he can still help the team, this season, next season, two more seasons.

"I think it is all positive to have a guy like this in the club."

Is former teammate in the know?

Kalou, now plying his trade with German side Hertha Berlin, enjoyed six trophy-laden years at Stamford Bridge with Terry and knows the skipper inside out.

Given his connections at the club a lot could be read into his revelation that he thinks Terry will remain a Blue.

Kalou also makes a salient point about it being a huge mistake to let such a powerful figurehead leave.

Terry is Chelsea's most successful captain, having led them to four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups and one UEFA Champions League title since 2004.

He is one of five players to have made over 500 appearances for Chelsea and is also the club's all-time highest scoring defender.
