Newcastle United striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has told the club’s official website that the fans should not lose faith.
The Magpies are second from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment and are in real danger of getting relegated to the Championship at the end of the season.
Mitrovic, who joined Newcastle from Belgian giants Anderlecht in the summer of 2015, has urged the supporters to stay behind the team.
"Our fans were amazing, like always,” the 21-year-old told Newcastle’s official website. “I hope they will stay with us for these seven games because we will need them now more than ever. With them, I think anything is possible.”
Newcastle were in a similar situation last season, and they narrowly avoided the drop to the Championship.
There is still a chance that the Magpies could escape the drop, but recent results suggest that they may not be able to.
Rafael Benitez’s have a game in hand, but the fact that they are six points behind 17th-placed Norwich City means that they have to rely on results elsewhere to avoid the drop.
Newcastle will return to action next weekend when they take on Southampton away from home at St. Mary’s Stadium in the Premier League.
