Everton and Liverpool could be set to do battle over Lyon striker Alexander Lacazette this summer, reports the Mirror.
Both clubs have reportedly monitored the progress of the 24-year-old, who has enjoyed another fine season with the French side. Lacazette has been in impressive form in Ligue 1 this season, and is said to be attracting the attentions of both Everton and Liverpool. He has scored 14 goals in 10 games this season, the third highest goalscorer in the division behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Edinson Cavani.
Everton may need a replacement for Romelu Lukaku in the summer, as the striker has signaled his desire to play Champions League football next season. He has scored 25 goals in all competitions this season, and his departure would leave a major gap up front.
Liverpool meanwhile will need to replace Christian Benteke if, as expected, he leaves the club over the summer. The Belgian has endured a difficult year at the club following his move from Aston Villa, having scored in just 7 of his 24 Premier League appearances. Not a lot for a layout of £32.5m.
The Reds have Daniel Sturridge as first choice, but beyond that Divock Origi and Danny Ings are more hot prospects than sufficient back up at this point.
Everton and Liverpool are used to battling each other on the pitch. Now they may have a battle over Lacazette off it.
