According to The Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are keen to sign Zenit St. Petersburg midfielder Axel Witsel at the end of the season, with a £20m move in the pipeline.
Witsel, 27, emerged as one of the hottest prospects in Belgian football with Standard Liege, and after a move to Benfica, the midfielder earned a shock big-money move to Russia with Zenit St. Petersburg in 2012.
Almost four years on, Witsel has racked up almost 150 appearances for Zenit - who are of course managed by former Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas - scoring 19 goals in the process as he has now become one of the most impressive central midfielders in Europe.
Now, The Sun report that Tottenham Hotspur are keen to add Witsel to their squad, and are plotting a £20m move to sign him ahead of the European Championships, where Witsel is set to represent Belgium alongside four Spurs stars.
Mauricio Pochettino already has a strong Belgian contingent, with Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld, Mousa Dembele and Nacer Chadli all set to play at Euro 2016 - and those four players could be a factor in their alleged pursuit of Witsel this summer.
Linking up with a handful of players he already knows so well may be tempting to Witsel, whilst manager Pochettino may want to add another option in the heart of midfield alongside the likes of Dembele and Eric Dier, especially with a Champions League campaign on the horizon.
Witsel has Champions League experience to his name as well as three league titles across his career, giving him the credentials Tottenham and Pochettino may be looking for this summer.
