The club look set to be relegated from the Premier League.
Aston Villa’s season seems to have come to a halt. The club are bottom of the Premier League and on their way to the Championship after a woeful 2015-16 campaign.
With little to play for it would surely be a good time for Villa to blood a few more of their younger players in the final stages of this season.
However, only Jordan Lyden looks like getting a chance despite some impressive talents in the Villa fold.
One former Aston Villa star who thinks that is a mistake is Paul Merson.
He was speaking on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday this weekend (02/04/2016) when he made it clear that he could not believe Villa were not playing any of their young players against Chelsea at the weekend:
“One thing I have always had when I was at Villa, they’ve always had good kids coming through.
“They always had a good youth team, always had a good reserve team. They’re not playing?
“Just play them. For the next ten games just play these kids. You might find two diamonds. If you do, it’s a bonus, if you don’t at least you know.”
It was a game that Villa went on to lose 4-0 and they learned very little from it – other then what they already know.
The club would surely now benefit from bringing through some of their young players before the end of the season to see if anyone is potentially ready to help them in their upcoming Championship campaign.
But it looks like they are still trying to out their senior players in the shop window.
