Stats show Mousa Dembele was brilliant at Liverpool

Mousa Dembele was arguably Tottenham Hotspur's best player in the draw at Liverpool.

Spurs moved within four points of Premier League leaders Leicester City on Saturday night by coming from behind to hold Liverpool to a 1-1 draw at Anfield.

Harry Kane cancelled out Philippe Coutinho's early second-half opener as Mauricio Pochettino's side stay in the hunt for a first league title since 1961.

By virtue of the fact that the Reds had comfortably dispatched both Manchester United and Manchester City on Merseyside in recent weeks, Tottenham could have been forgiven for feeling slightly apprehensive about the clash.

If they were, not many of them showed it, and no player embodied that lack of fear more than stocky midfielder Mousa Dembele, who was truly outstanding for the Lilywhites as he took the game to Liverpool.

With 95 touches of the ball - more than any other player, with the exception of Danny Rose who also managed 95 - the 28-year-old seemed ever present in the contest, completing 61 of his 69 passes to earn a percentage of 88%.

The most striking thing about Dembele is his physical frame, which he appeared to put to good use throughout by winning a massive 16 of his duels, also winning four tackles. Only Jordan Henderson, with six, won more.

And then there's his knack of wrestling the ball away from opposition players, which he managed to do on 12 occasions.

He has won plenty of admiration from Spurs fans down the years, but to perform on this stage, under this pressure, is another thing altogether and he has certainly proved his class this season.
