Martinez offers reaction to Everton's defeat, responds when asked if he's worried

Roberto Martinez Press Conference Smiling

Roberto Martinez saw his Everton side lose 1-0 to Manchester United today.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has told Sky Sports that he is disappointed with his side's 1-0 defeat away to Manchester United this afternoon.

The Toffees went into the game having lost their previous two Premier League fixtures against West Ham United and Arsenal, though they did enjoy an FA Cup win over Chelsea between those two losses.

Today though, it was a third Premier League defeat in a row, as Anthony Martial's second half goal handed Manchester United a 1-0 win over Everton at Old Trafford.

The result leaves Everton in 12th place in the Premier League table, 16 points adrift of the top four and only 11 points clear of the relegation zone after a disappointing season under Martinez.

Spanish boss Martinez has come in for stern criticism this season, with many fans feeling that he has massively under-achieved considering that he has the likes of John Stones, James McCarthy, Ross Barkley, Gerard Deulofeu and Romelu Lukaku at his disposal.

After the game, Martinez was asked by Sky Sports about whether he is worried about the current run of form, but suggested that his side have been unlucky of late and simply need to regroup.

Martinez also claimed that he felt there wasn't much between the two teams, and stated that his side had the better chances once United went in front this afternoon.

"It's a real disappointment because obviously you get that nearly feeling," said Martinez. "I thought that we stopped Manchester United from having a controlling game, to have a normal performance that they could have at home. We are very disappointed with the goal we conceded, and from that point, we feel that we created the better chances."

"We need to regroup. We are still getting through a period that, for us, is very, very important. We had a very important win in between those two defeats. One defeat (West Ham) was in 12 minutes when we were down to ten men, and that performance was a performance that deserved a lot more. Out of those three games, there has only been a terrible performance against Arsenal that wasn't ourselves at all. Today is different, but we need to make sure that from now until the end of the season, we can display a better mentality," he added.
