Jamie Redknapp is impressed with Mousa Dembele but wants to see him score regularly.
Jamie Redknapp raved about Mousa Dembele during SkySports' coverage of Liverpool v Tottenham on Saturday night.
Now in comments made to Monday's edition of The Mail, he has elaborated further, claiming that a few extra goals would make him worth as much as £40 million.
He believes Dembele to be the complete midfielder, barring a lack of production in terms of scoring.
Redknapp said: "It was a decent result and Mousa Dembele ran the game. His pass completion — 88.4 per cent — was the best on the pitch and he was a beast on the ball.
"He is strong, quick, he can pass and he can tackle. If he could add 10 goals a season to his game we would be talking about a £40million player, no question. He’s that good."
Dembele is 28-years-old, and £40 million would be a steep price, but in the context of being a complete midfielder at his peak, such a figure would not seem outrageous by today's standards.
It is fair to wonder what Dembele's price might be today even so, even if many Tottenham fans would suggest he is 'priceless'.
Back in 2012, Spurs paid around £15 million to sign him fro Fulham, and judging purely on this season, he has improved rather than regressed as a player.
Back at Fulham he was once considered a striker, but has never really been prolific. This season from midfield he has three goals in 25 Premier League games, plus one in the Europa League.
This year's league goal tally matches his highest back in 2010/11 with Fulham, with three strikes. His most prolific league campaign came with AZ Alkmaar in 2008/09 in which he scored 10 goals in 23 Eredivisie games.
