Graeme Souness says this should be Everton’s Premier League position

Everton are not doing well in the Premier League at the moment.

Former Liverpool and Rangers midfielder Graeme Souness has suggested in The Sunday Times that Everton should be sixth in the Premier League table.

The Toffees are 12th in the standings at the moment with 38 points from 29 matches and have a game in hand.

“Everton should be sixth and the difference in prize and TV money between that and where they actually stand is £10m,” former Liverpool and Rangers midfielder Souness wrote in The Sunday Times. “They should be doing much better in the Premier League.

“They don’t even have the Europa League this year, so there are no distractions. Without Lukaku’s goals they would be under real pressure, looking over their shoulder at the wrong end of the table.”

Everton are hugely underachieving this season and may not even finish in the top half of the Premier League.

True, the Merseyside outfit are still in the FA Cup and could win the prestigious cup competition this campaign, but it is the Premier League that should be their main priority.

The Toffees may not have a team strong enough to challenge for the top four, but they do have a bunch of players who should be pushing for a top-eight spot.

Roberto Martinez’s side will return to action this afternoon when they take on Manchester United away from home at Old Trafford in the Premier League.

United are chasing a top-four finish this season, and they will head into the game as favourites.
